Digital Energy Meter and Voice Annunciation With Proximity Card

The “Digital Energy meter” replaces the old Energy meter to update the current system of Electricity metering. Presently we have the analog meter which has a moving coil and based on the electricity consumed the speed of the coil varies. The electricity units are calculated based on the no of rotations of the coil. This is the old method. Now with our project we can have the Energy consumed (Units) will be displayed on a seven segment display.

Multiple Starter With Overload and High, Low Voltage Protection

This project aims to use the computer keyboard as a dual controller for switching Electrical Motors etc. Also we can monitor the Current for the devices. This project also has the provision for setting the current limit also, and the loads will get tripped if the current exceeds the limit. The Actions done can also be Announced by using the computer Multimedia Speaker for e.g. if a motor is switched on/off this is achieved with the use of advanced Transducers and Relays. The is e o/p of the sensors is conditioned and fed into the centralized computer by means of a PIC Microcontroller using RS232 Interface. The Features included are

On/Off provision for Devices:

Using computer keyboard we can able to Switch on or switch off the Motors by using the computer Keyboard Keys. The indications are given in the computer screen itself i.e., Status of the devices (On or off).

Temperature based Action:

By using thermistors we can able to identify the temperature for the devices and we can accordingly trip the devices.

Remote Speed Control Of AC / DC Motor

We have employed an Embedded Microcontroller for controlling the speed of the AC Motor. This project uses the SCR to change the firing angle, so that we can vary the speed of the AC Motor. Even it has field and armature control. It also has an internal Acceleration and De-acceleration control. Because when we operate we can vary the speed instantly by changing the potentiometer, but the response will be controlled based on the Acceleration and De-acceleration timings for safety reasons.

Power Sharing Of Transformer With Overload Protection

This project is concerned with the design and fabrication of a hardware which will monitor the performance of the load sharing process by taking power consumed by the load into consideration. This power is displayed on the monitor with the aid of suitable software.
The operation of transformers in parallel becomes necessary because:

  • If the amount to be transformed is greater than which can be handled by one transformer, it becomes necessary to employ two or more units in parallel.

  • To meet the additional demand or a power system it becomes necessary to replace the existing unit by unit of greater capacity or to install the additional unit to carry a portion of the load. The cost of making such changes will in many cases be greater than if the original transformer is connected in parallel with another to carry a portion of the load. Hence in this project “Power Sharing of Transformers” paralleling of transformers becomes necessary.

In case of deviations from the normal values, suitable control actions can be implemented to ensure reliable operation of relays. So the transformers are connected in parallel to share the load.

It also has thermistor to monitor the temperature of the transformer, and a Flame Sensor to detect the Flame, and a Intruder Sensor to detect intruder and the transformer will be tripped if any of the above is sensed.

Also we have Recycling Time which will monitor the load, and disconnects the unwanted transformer from sharing.
